Bonjour Paris
Some cities have their own significance, characteristics which make these cities well-known in the world. Paris is also one of them, Paris, the capital city of France located on the river of Seine in northern France. The two houses of the French Parliament are also to be found on the Left Bank. France’s highest courts are also located in Paris. Today Paris is one of the world’s leading business and cultural centre and influences in politics, education, media, entertainment, science and fashion. It also contributes in arts sector in proper manner which increase its status in the world as a major global city.
INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
In 2009 and 2010 Paris was ranked among the three most important and influential cities in the world and among the first three “European cities’’ of the future according to research published by Financial Times. Paris is considered among top ten most livable cities in the world according to British Review Monocle. Paris also ranked among the ten greenest European cities in 2010. Headquarters of many international organizations such as the organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, UNESCO, The International Chamber of Commerce, ICC, OECD and the informal Paris Club are also in Paris.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND OF PARIS
The name of Paris derives from that of its initial residents, the Gaulish tribe known as the Parasii and it is assumed that parasii comes from Celtic Gallic word Parisio meaning “ the working people’’ or “the craftsman’’ Since the mid-19th century, Paris has been known as paname in the Parisian slang called argot. La Ville-Lumiere is most renowned nickname of paris from all other nicknames it has. The people who live there are called “Parisians’’ in English and in French as parisiens. Parisians are pejoratively called parigots, a term used first time in 1900 by those living outside of the Paris region but now the term may be considered by Parisians themselves.
CLIMATE OF PARIS
It has typical western European ocean weather influenced by North Atlantic Current, in simple words, mild and moderately wet. The average temperature of Paris is between 15 and 25 degree with reasonable amount of sunshine in summer season. Temperature at night goes down normally. Spring and autumn have normally mild days and fresh nights, but frequently change in atmosphere give surprises in both seasons.
Sunshine is scarce and days are cold in winter season. Temperature is around about 7 degrees. Light frost is common and temperature is dip below-5 degree at night for few days only. Snowfall is rare in Paris but sometimes light snowfall makes the atmosphere more freezing. Temperature went down -10 to -20 degree because of heavy snow fall resulted by cold waves in 2009 and 2010 repeatedly.
Surprising element is also involved in rain falls because of heavy sudden showers. It is not a very rainy city but rain falls throughout the year with average annual precipitation 652mm. The highest temperature of Paris is 40.4c on 28 June 1948 and the lowest is -23.9c on December 1879.
All these things and more which are not mentioned here like Museums, Parks, and Gardens make this city beautiful, gorgeous and attractive to live.
PARKS AND GARDENS IN PARIS
No doubt paris is known for its many elegant and beautiful parks. These Parks are of different kinds which increase the beauty of paris. Many modern parks have been created in 17th century. There are more than 400 parks in paris which contribute in the attractiveness of the city and provide facility to the Parisians remain in touch with the nature.
Here we are giving small introduction to some famous parks which are liked by the people, who visit.
The Forest of Boulogne
Bois de Boulogne is a beautiful, enormous park at the western side of the paris. This park was made in 1852 in accordance with the desire of napoleon III to make a park which would be equivalent to the London,s Hyde park. Parc de Bagatelle a home of magnificent roses is most prominent garden as compare to other gardens which are part of the Bois de Boulogne.
Champ de Mars
Champ de Mars is sited at the northwestern edge of the paris. The most famous in the world, Eiffel Tower is one of the remaining structure of this Ground. This area was used for several world exhibitions in the 19th century. Initially it would have been used as a parade Ground for students of Ecole Military Academy.
Jardin des Plantes
This royal garden was created in 1626 to cultivate herbs for medical purposes. It is still leading botanical garden in the country. Natural History Museum is also situated in this garden which has huge attraction to the visitors.
Jardin du Luxembourg
The most popular park in paris which features a romantic fountain called “the fountain de Medicis”. It also has the facility to relax on chairs near to the octogonal pond where children use their sailboats in the water.
Park Andre Citroen
This park is located in the 15th arrondissement near the seine and is being considered one of the most modern and successful park in paris. This park was formed in 1992. The central area of this park is a wide open green field and other parts of the park contain modern sculptures or thick bushes.
Likewise Jardins du Ranelagh, The Jardins du Trocadero, Parc de la Villette, parc Montsouris, parc Floral de paris, parc Monceau are also have great attraction to the visitors.
